What is Leeds Weekend Care Association?
We are an independent charity, local to the Leeds area, with one aim: to enhance the lives of children with disabilities and their families within the Leeds area. We started in June 1998 as a small pilot scheme funded by Scope and the National Lottery and have since grown to become a successful and well-established short break provider offering three different projects:
Weekenders Club
Weekenders club operates 47 weekends a year to offer families 6 and a half hour breaks once a month. We have lots of resources for our children and teenagers including arts and crafts, bouncy castle, ball pool, adapted bikes, table top activities, baking, sensory equipment, garden games, Wii consoles and lots of traditional ball games and sports activities. Teen Scene Teen Scene is our newest project and aims to provide teenagers aged 14-18 with additional needs the opportunity to have fun, make friends, try new experiences and build their confidence and independence in a safe and welcoming environment.
Out and About Project
The Out and About Project provides opportunities to teenagers with a disability to access social and leisure facilities in the community with our experienced staff team. All of our projects offer the opportunity for children and young people with disabilities to make friends and have fun, and respite for their families, who are able to relax knowing they are in a safe and welcoming environment.
