Sophie Alder

Hi I’m Sophie, a dance artist and Pilates teacher based in Leeds.

My first passion is dance and over the past 25 years I have performed, taught and delivered projects in the UK and abroad working with under 5s to adults, complete beginners to professional dancers.  I lead Ability, a dance course for adults with additional learning support needs at Northern Ballet, which has helped to develop my person-centered approach, recognizing individual needs and celebrating difference.

I’m one of a handful of Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) teachers in the UK and regularly run workshops and courses exploring its poetic imagery and principles in the studio and outdoors moving in nature.

While I was familiar with Pilates, in 2020, I discovered Polestar Pilates through a Whole Body Pelvic Health course and was converted. I had found a new strand to my practice which complimented it and shared its values; of meeting the person where they are and facilitating their personal process to find better alignment and more efficient movement. Like SRT, it uses imagery, appreciates the  need to release unnecessary tension and recognises the impact physical change can have mentally and emotionally state.
This is what really excites me, the development of the whole person to lead a better, happier life through movement and underpins all my practice.
